To the surprise of nobody, Hogwarts Legacy is already one of the biggest video games of all time. Despite J.K. Rowling’s controversial politics, the Harry Potter RPG has exceeded expectations in terms of popularity.
Just how big is the game? According to Insider Gaming, the Harry Potter RPG has already broken 1.3 million concurrent viewers on Twitch. If that wasn’t enough, it’s currently the only single-player game that’s in Twitch viewership. While it hasn’t dethroned Elden Ring, there’s no denying this title has made an impact.
Hogwarts Legacy has also made a huge impact on Steam. We already knew that it was one of the most pre-ordered games on the platform and now it has a good number of concurrent players. As of this writing, SteamDB claims that there are currently more than 260,000 concurrent players, while almost 500,000 players have been playing this for the past two days.
Obviously, this is great news for Harry Potter fans, as it could mean more quality licensed titles in this world. While Hogwarts Legacy is something players wanted, it is missing some fan-favorite activities like Quidditch. Since a new Quidditch video game is doubtful (remember when that was a thing?) some DLC or a sequel should add this fictional sport.
Considering all of the love Hogwarts Legacy has received, it’s a shame that the game has been so controversial. Most of us already know about J.K. Rowling and what she thinks of trans people, so seeing gamers buy it to “stick it to the libs” is sad. Also sad is seeing Twitch streamers get bullied by fans when they just want to enjoy their Harry Potter fantasy.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. It will also come to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch later in the year. Personally, we think curious gamers should buy this used or after a deep discount since it’s already making all the money and Rowling doesn’t need it anymore.
