Are you ready to play a game... IN SPACE? Yes, apparently that's exactly what Hideo Kojima would like to work on, among his several on-going projects. He definitely wants to leave Earth and work on a game "you can play in space". Well, at least he's committed to never leave us without some surprising new ideas, right?
The latest idea from Kojima comes from his talk at the premiere of a new documentary, Connecting Worlds. Asked what he would like to do by Geoff Keighley, the designer replied I want to go to outer space. I want to go to outer space and create a game you can play In space… So please someone send me up to space", as reported on Twitter.
Others at the conference also mentioned that Kojima wasn't exactly being 100% serious when he said those words, but then again, it is hard to tell how much Kojima is committed to the many ideas he's spoken about in recent years.
We recently reported how he's definitely going to work with deadpan king actor Nicolas Cage, so would anyone really be surprised if Kojima would - in a sort of William Shatner move - embark on a space ship and start working on a game there? Probably no one.
We know that Kojima is a fan of creating unusual game mechanics, which is how he first created the Metal Gear franchise, from the early MSX day. He thought of creating a game where, instead of fighting, the character would begin without weapons and the player would have to figure out other ways of progressing.
The documentary, Connecting Worlds, is all about giving an insight into how the first "videogame auteur" works and how his creative process shapes all of his games and works.
While we would not really expect Kojima to go to space tomorrow (or any time soon), we would say that there's already a bit of alien DNA in all of his ideas anyway.
