Breakdown

  • Sony has canceled its PSN linking plans for Helldivers 2
  • The game is still unavailable in over 170 countries
  • Fans all over the world are still waiting for the game to come back

PlayStation is canceling PSN integration for Helldivers 2 players on Steam, but they still haven’t brought the shooter back to countries it was removed from. This is what many fans were worried about, as most countries don’t have the PlayStation Network, forcing fans to make accounts for the US or other places.

On Twitter, PlayStation said that they’re listening to fans and have canceled their plans to force Steam players to make a PSN account. However, the company has not addressed the game being removed from other countries, with many hoping an update will fix that soon.

At the time of writing, there are over 150 countries that cannot play Helldivers 2, resulting in numerous refunds for this shooter. While Sony has canceled their plans, it’s also up to them to bring the game back and make it playable for everyone involved.

Many fans will agree that the PSN integration was an unnecessary move on Sony’s part, with users theorizing that Sony wanted to boost the console’s user numbers. However, since Steam bases its app on your location, the shooter was inevitably removed from stores around the world after this mandate came out.

Fans are still waiting for Helldivers 2 to come back, as the game proved to be an excellent experience on PC. This proved that Sony should do more simultaneous releases on PS5 and PC, as gaming on computers has increased by a ton. It also helps that the Steam Deck exists, giving gamers an incredibly powerful handheld that can play almost anything.

Sony better learn from this experience, as the company will continue to bring more of their PS5 and PS4 games to PC. Ghost of Tsushima is coming to PC soon with Steam Deck compatibility in mind and it was already confirmed that PSN linking is needed for multiplayer. At the least, fans will be able to enjoy the lengthy single-player campaign by themselves.

Helldivers 2 is available now on PS5 and PC, though the latter will depend on where you’re from.
