Having problems with space? Well, that will definitely be a problem when Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth releases as the game is the first PlayStation 5 game to come on two discs. Remember those good ol' days when you had to disc swap at certain points? They might be back sooner than you think. Or, well, probably not.

The news comes a new trailer released during the recent Summer Game Fest, along with a release window of early 2024. Many games knew that something was in the air, since Square Enix had been hinting and teasing at it all week with various "countdowns" which led to the number seven.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is a continuation of 2020’s FF7 Remake. Moving out of the rather linear, small areas of Midgar, Rebirth is a much bigger game with a sprawling overworld and numerous towns to visit.

On PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy VII Remake also came on two Blu-ray Discs. However, when it was released on PS5, the game came on a single 100GB 4K Blu-Ray Disc.

With this in mind, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is going to be in excess of 100GB, possibly as big as 200GB. For comparison, on PS1, the original game came on three CDs due to its massive file size of 1.3GB. Oh, how times change.

Fans are obviously reacting with puns and jokes to the news. With some saying "the PS5 is going to sound like a jet taking off while loading this", while others are wondering if their 8 year old Acer laptop is going to handle the game’s eventual PC port.

Along with the knowledge that the game is going to be so big as to need two 100GB PS5 discs, what else did we get to see? Well, we see a little bit of what the open world is going to play like, with fields to be explored and various huge complexes where Aerith and Tifa are walking around.

Longtime fans of the series will be happy to know that, along others, both Yuffie (which some of you might remember from the Intergrade DLC) and also Red XIII will be both playable characters.

We already know that FF7: Rebirth is going to be very much its own game, as producer Yoshinori Kitase had previously confirmed that fans do not need to have played the original to enjoy Rebirth. The battle system will be basically the same we've already seen in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake as well.

So, fans are understandably excited about all the goodness that is going to be on two full PS5 discs. What else are we going to see in there? Not long to wait now to find out.
