VR mods continue to be a thing of beauty, so seeing them implemented in beautiful games like Far Cry 6 is a treat. While this installment in the series didn’t blow anyone away, experiencing the full campaign in VR might change minds.

This new VR mod by Luke Ross was featured on Eurogamer, showing how great the island of Yara looks in this new perspective. Fans interested in the mod can check out Ross’ Patreon to get it, though the mod itself is still a work in progress.

Speaking to his Patreons, Ross admits that this Far Cry 6 mod is still in rough shape. Odd visual hiccups and muzzle flashes were brought up by Eurogamer. VR fans will also be disappointed to know that there are no motion controls, at least not yet.

"It is the first time I try my hand at modding the Dunia Engine, and getting the mod in playable shape took me way more time and effort than I had expected,” Ross said on Patreon. “I'm releasing it now because It Works For Me (TM)...However, despite the somewhat rough state of the mod, the feedback I've been getting from people who tested it (and my own gameplay impressions) tell me that this is a game which really deserves to be experienced in VR."

Ross is no stranger to the Far Cry series, as he previously modded the first game in the series. While still not a perfect experience, Ross’ previous update has been improved a ton and even has motion controls. Hopefully, these are also added to his Far Cry 6 VR mod as the potential is vast.

VR conversions of classic games are becoming more common. Recently, we looked at the brilliant VR conversation of Star Wars: Jedi Outcast. Unlike normal mods, VR mods for non-VR games create a wholly different experience that needs to be seen to be believed.

Beyond having The Mandalorian’s Giancarlo Esposito, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 didn’t leave much of an impression. Although most wouldn’t call it a bad game, anyone familiar with the Far Cry formula won’t be impressed. Even then, at least it wasn’t seemingly canceled like the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.
