FromSoftware’s brilliant open world RPG Elden Ring is finally getting an expansion. After months of waiting the first Elden Ring DLC has been announced, and it’s expected to be massive.
Dubbed Shadow of the Erdtree, the new DLC promises “new adventures in The Land Between”. While not confirmed, the game’s first DLC is expected to add a new area to the open world game with its own story, quests, bosses, weapons and more.
FromSoftware has only announced that the DLC is currently in active development. However, we do know that the expansion has been in the works for some time with prominent Dark Souls insider Lance McDonald previously teasing the expansion’s impressive scope.
The Elden Ring DLC announcement curiously came without a release window or expected platforms. While the expansion will definitely come to Xbox Series, PS5 and PC, there is some worry surrounding last-gen systems.
The original game’s release was perfectly serviceable on Xbox One and PS4, but there’s no telling if the expansion’s added scope will be present on the older machines. However, we hope that last-gen gamers will have a chance to experience the game’s new content.
Elden Ring DLC is the first time FromSoftware has made an expansion since 2016’s Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City. The studio’s last game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, was the first FromSoftware game since the first Dark Souls to not feature a DLC expansion, and fans were worried that Elden Ring would follow suit.
Alongside the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, the Dark Souls studio is working on another game. Releasing later this year, the studio is working on Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, the first entry in the series since 2013’s Verdict Day.
More info is expected to release in the coming months regarding Shadow of the Erdtree such as release date, platforms and content. All we know is that it’ll probably be fantastic.
