Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion has proven to be a pretty good remaster on all systems, giving fans a better way to replay the PSP classic. The game doesn’t seem to have too many bugs either, but one odd error somehow manages to bring back the old voice actor (VA) of protagonist Zack Fair.

For those unaware, it seems that all Final Fantasy 7 projects going forward are using the new actors introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. So the actors playing Zack, Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, and Sephiroth from FF7R return all return for the new Crisis Core remaster.

However, this odd instance of Zack’s old voice coming back is making fans wonder how this happened. Is it a bug? Did Square Enix forget about the line and use the old recording to cover it up? Only time will tell (or not).

A Twitter user called Materia showed off a scene in the Crisis Core remaster where Zack briefly gets his old voice back. This is a scene near the end of the game, so fans unfamiliar with the story might want to avoid watching it.

No one knows how this happened since most of the game doesn’t have errors like this. Maybe a patch will be released to have the new voice replace the old one, but this is still such an oddity.

In the PSP version of Crisis Core, Zack was voiced by Rick Gomez and most fans enjoyed his voice. Unfortunately, due to the mandate in FF7R, Gomez was replaced by Caleb Pierce in that game and the Crisis Core remaster. While fans are getting used to Pierce, many still prefer Gomez in the role.

Don’t be too surprised if a PC mod that brings back the older voice actors is made. Console users will have to play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion with the new actors.
