Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 performance suffers, rarely hits 60fps

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an absolutely massive game that offers countless interactions on PC which can lead to some performance issues. Unfortunately, Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 players will also suffer from rampant performance issues, especially in later stages.

In a performance analysis conducted by GamingTech, Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 performance is not exactly stable. While the game offers a 30FPS quality mode and a 60fps performance mode, neither consistently hits their framerate target.

For the start of the game, Baldur’s Gate 3’s performance mode doesn’t manage to hit a stable 60fps. While some areas can hit the performance target, there are sweeping drops down to the mid-30s.

Of course, this also means that the game’s notoriously performance-heavy Act 3 has a number of huge framerate issues. In the game’s performance profile, Baldur’s Gate 3 still goes under 30fps as you walk through the game’s titular city, an issue that also made the Steam Deck version almost unplayable.

The game’s 30fps graphics profile also suffers from drops below its performance target as well. Even when set to 30fps, Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 performance issues still occur, although the drops are not as huge.

While many may be upset at the level of performance in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5, it’s not too surprising. On PC, the Dungeons and Dragons RPG is notoriously CPU heavy, something that console games struggle with in every generation.

On PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 can hit a consistent 60fps on a number of CPUs, but it is a very heavy experience on a wide range of machines. Even without using the game’s splitscreen multiplayer mode, it’s a very heavy game that was always going to struggle on console.

Baldur’s Gate 3 also has an Xbox Series port in the works after making concessions for the game’s Series S version. While it will be interesting to see a performance head to head between PS5 and Xbox Series, the game’s Xbox release date is still a ways away.

Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC via Steam and GOG and PlayStation 5.
