One of the only bad things about Baldur’s Gate 3 is that it's a digital-only release, even for PS5. However, that’s not the case for Japanese gamers, as they will be getting a physical release for the PS5 version.
Announced by Spike Chunsoft (translated by Gematsu), the company announced they will be publishing the physical release in Japan. While the game doesn’t have a Japanese release date yet, Game*Spark confirmed they’re getting physical and digital copies.
Sadly, at the time of writing, it looks like the massive RPG won’t be getting a physical copy in the West. Larian Studios hasn’t announced any plans to release their acclaimed RPG on a PS5 or Xbox Series disc, at least not yet.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was published and developed by Larian Studios, so the lack of a physical copy makes some sense. When the enhanced versions of the first two Baldur’s Gate games went physical, Skybound handled publishing duties.
There’s always a chance that the RPG will be released physically later on. It’s a trend we’ve seen in indie games like Cuphead, so there’s some hope. Then again, Remedy is adamant that Alan Wake 2 will remain digital-only and that trend could follow with Larian’s passion project.
PC players aren’t too bothered by this since they have been enjoying digital-only games for the longest time. Most of them picked the game up when it was still in Early Access, with many claiming it’s the best title to ever appear in that platform. It’s clear that those three years were worth it, given the acclaim that now accompanies this game.
Currently, the PC version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is going through some changes, with patches and mods already available. A developer from Larian has hinted that the RPG will soon allow for mid-game character customization. There’s also a mod that will let fans play alone for the ultimate friendless experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now on PC, with the PS5 version coming out on September 6.
