Atari and PLAION have teamed up to make the Atari 2600+, a modern-day recreation of this classic console. Slated for release this November, this recreation of the console will be able to play cartridges from the 2600 and 7800.
This modern recreation of the classic game console is currently available for pre-order here. In addition to playing classic cartridges from the 2600 and 7800, the system will also come with its own 10-in-1 cartridge. Some of the games included are Adventure, Missile Command, and Yars’ Revenge.
“Preserving classic games is a priority for Atari, and the release of the Atari 2600+ will make the hundreds of Atari 2600 and 7800 games that have been released over the last 50 years universally accessible,” said Atari Chairman and CEO, Wade Rosen. “PLAION’s approach to a quality recreation of iconic Atari hardware made them the perfect partner to bring the Atari 2600+ to market.”
Fans of the system will also be happy to know that this console will have HDMI support and the games can be played in widescreen. The CX40+ Joystick controller will supposedly play like the original joystick as well, which is great for gaming purists. Interestingly, this CX40+ joystick can be purchased separately with a 4-in-1 gaming cartridge.
We’ve seen Atari make these modern recreations before, as well as re-release older games for newer consoles. Most recently, we had the Atari 50 collection, which came out on current-gen systems and has rare games from Atari’s failed Jaguar console.

The Atari 2600+ will be released on November 17 for $129.99. Gamers can also purchase the CX40+ joystick for $24.99 if they want the controller as a standalone purchase.
