Which PS4 games can I play on PS5?

One of the big questions that has surrounded the latest generation of consoles is "what games are available?".

Given the lack of exclusive titles that tend to accompany a brand new console, is it possible to play older PlayStation games on the new PS5?

Here, we will be looking at PS4 games, and whether you can play them on your shiny new PS5.

Read on, to find out what might be available to you.

Backwards Compatibility?

While some new games are published as "cross-gen" - namely, games made for both PS4 and PS5, many titles were solely for the PS4.

As a result, one of the big questions that has surrounded the latest generation of consoles is backwards compatibility.

This is the ability of new consoles to play games made for earlier consoles.

So with this in mind, just how many games from the PS4 can you play on the PS5?

What Can I Actually Play?

According to Sony's own website, the PS5 can play the "overwhelming majority" of PS4 titles.

This is a collection of over 4000 games, playable by inserting a disc, or via a digital copy.

Also, many of these games will be eligible to upgrade to the PS5 version, or benefit from the PS5's Game Boost option, which can improve the frame rate at which PS4 games run.

At the time of writing, Sony has listed only 8 PS4 games that are not playable on the PS5.
