Dark screenshots on Xbox Series X and S: Dimly lit captures are a 'Known Issue' with the consoles


On a webpage about the 'Known Issues' that are impacting the newly launched Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, Microsoft has revealed that some gamers might be seeing their captured screenshots coming out darker than expected.

Other Known Issues with the consoles are impacting the BBC iPlayer, EA Play and Peacock TV apps, and certain makes of TV are also running into problems.

Dark screenshots and captured footage is a 'Known Issue' on Xbox Series X/S

On the Known Issues webpage about the new consoles, Microsoft says, "Some users will see HDR captures appearing too dark when captured on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S."

This is a problem that Microsoft has already spotted, so you don't need to worry about phoning them up or sending a strongly-worded email (unless you really want to).

How to fix dark screenshots and captured footage on Xbox Series X/S

Microsoft states, "There is no known workaround but a fix will be coming soon in a future console update."

Right now, then, there isn't much you can do if your screenshots and/or captured footage are coming out a bit on the dark side.
