The robots of SteamWorld Build are surprisingly needy, and just like us, they get thirsty for the good stuff. To get your engineers back in the mines, you'll need plenty of resources, and sand is one of the more confusing ones to get. In this guide, we'll share how to get sand in SteamWorld Build.

Sand is an enigmatic resource that's most useful as glass. This refined form is created by glassblower buildings and combined with cactus water to keep a Moonshiner building well-stocked.

How to get sand in SteamWorld Build

Sand is used to create glass bottles, and like most resources in SteamWorld Build, there's a few ways to get it. You'd be forgiven for thinking it's found in the mines, but the sandstone you can dig through is totally unrelated.

The first and most expensive way to get sand is to trade for it. The most straightforward trade is cash for sand, but can make the trade for any resource; costs will vary based on how much sand you already have.

To set up a trade, you'll need to click on the train station, click the button in the 'ongoing trades' box, and select sand in the box on the right. Expect to spend 250 to 1000 robo-bucks for each unit of sand, with the trades happening every time the train arrives in town.

The second and best way to get sand is by creating a sand sifting factory. To do so, you'll need to follow the numbered steps below.

  1. Click on the engineer's face at the bottom of the screen
  1. Click on the moonshine bottle
  2. Select the sand sifting factory - it's the step before the glassblower
  3. For best results, place it in an area free of other buildings for 100% fertility
  4. Connect the factory to the train station via roads, and enjoy your sand!
