With its complex city-building systems and detailed structures, Manor Lords seeks to immerse you in its medieval setting, and part of that is having a Coat of Arms to represent your blossoming settlement. Your Coat of Arms will be on display nearly all the time, often next to your portrait, though it's also used to represent your units in battle. However, there’s more to Manor Lords Coat of Arms than meets the eye, as you can create your own custom Coat of Arms. That’s right, you can actually upload an image to use in-game, though it requires some work first.

As is usually the case with player-made features in games, you can bet that players have already used the Manor Lords Coat of Arms creator to cook up some recognizable symbols from other games. Whether you’re looking to do the same or simply give the best Manor Lords units some unique style, then you’ll need to know how to create a Coat of Arms and how they work in-game.

How to create a Coat of Arms in Manor Lords

You will be prompted to create a Coat of Arms when you start a new game in Manor Lords. By default, you can use the in-game customization tools to design your Coat of Arms using the available symbols, colors, and patterns. However, during this process, you can also upload an image to use as your Coat of Arms - though it has to follow some rules to work.

Beware that this is the only chance you will have to customize your Coat of Arms, so choose wisely.

To create a custom Coat of Arms in Manor Lords using an uploaded image, you must:

  1. Access the official Manor Lords press kit
  2. Edit the included template file in an image editing app
  3. Save the file as 'custom_coat.png' and insert it into your game’s save folder
  4. Create a new save game and choose your custom Coat of Arms from the folder

In the press kit, you’ll find the template_custom_coat.png file. This is a handy template that will ensure your custom Coat of Arms will work properly in-game. Simply download this and take it into your favorite image editing software. Photoshop is an obvious pick but Photopea is a great alternative. Become the artist you were born to be and design your Coat of Arms however you like.

Once you’re done with that, save it as custom_coat.png and drop it into your Manor Lords save directory - %LocalAppData%\ManorLords\Saved\SaveGames, which you’ll typically find in your C: drive unless. From there, it’s as simple as starting a new save file and selecting it from the folder library.

It’s nothing too lavish, but you should be able to create a design you’re happy with.
