After years of mods and updates, Cities: Skylines is finally getting a full on sequel. In that time between titles, fans have begun to speculate what a Cities: Skylines 2 multiplayer mode might be like.
Though the game has a bit of trouble trying to decide whether it’s too hardcore or casual, Cities: Skylines 2 does look like it’s shaping up to be a solid follow-up to the original game.

No, Cities: Skylines 2 does not have a multiplayer mode.
Colossal Order, the developers behind the upcoming city-building simulator, have stated that adding any sort of multiplayer would take an “incredible amount of time and resources” and that it would shift focus away from the player experience they wish to achieve.
Instead, the developers are prioritizing the expansion and improvement of features that are already present in the franchise. In fact, they’ve already revealed some changes in the game’s map size and details on zoning.
Will Cities: Skylines 2 multiplayer be added in the future?
There are currently no plans to add any sort of multiplayer mode to Cities: Skylines 2 going forward.
While collaborating with others is a great way to add that extra layer of creativity and innovation when building an entire city, it looks like Cities: Skylines 2 won’t be the place to let you do that. And though the people at Colossal Order haven’t outright said “no” to adding multiplayer in the future, they’ve made it clear that it’s nowhere near the top of their priority list.
