Every time you embark on a fantasy-themed journey, you can count on obtaining mystical items that will lead you to some treasure. The Baldur’s Gate 3 Rune of the Wolf is one such item, and there is more than one way to get your hands on it.

You can begin working on acquiring the rune shortly after starting the game, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get. However, it is still possible for you and your companions to miss out on the bonus items that you might get with it.

So, let’s dive into how to obtain and use the Baldur’s Gate 3 Rune of the Wolf for an extra bit of help in the early stages of the game.

How to get the Rune of the Wolf

The Rune of the Wolf is obtained from an NPC named Rath. You can either try to steal the item from Rath, kill him, or obtain it as a reward by rescuing Halsin. You can find Rath in Druid Grove.

Rescue Halsin

This is probably the best way to obtain the rune since rescuing the Wood Elf can lead to him eventually joining your party as a companion. Bring Halsin back to Druid Grove safely and Rath will hand over the Rune of the Wolf as a reward.

Some people have had trouble locating the druid when trying to rescue him, so feel free to take a look at our guide on where to find Halsin.

Steal from Rath

If you’re feeling sneaky and don’t want to go through the trouble of slaying some goblins to save a druid, you can try to steal the Rune of the Wolf from Rath by picking his pocket. But, fail in this attempt and you might be forced into obtaining the rune through the next method.

Kill Rath

With Rath dead, you can simply take the Rune of the Wolf from his corpse. However, attacking Rath will have everyone in Druid Grove retaliate. So not only will you need to fight through an entire village of people, you’re also killing off an entire storyline in the game.

How to use the Rune of the Wolf

To use the Rune of the Wolf, you’ll need to place it on a stone pedestal found inside the Enclave Library in the Druid Grove Inner Sanctum. After that, it’s only a matter of touching a few more pedestals and the path to some treasure will open up for you.

Here’s a more detailed look at how to use the Rune of the Wolf.

  • Inside the Enclave Library, locate a stone pedestal that has an open socket.
  • Interact with the pedestal and place the Rune of the Wolf on it.
  • Look for other pedestals in the library and touch them in any order.
  • After going through all of the pedestals, the wolf statue inside the room will disappear.
  • Go to where the wolf statue was and you’ll find a floor hatch where a spiral staircase will lead you to a vault.

When you get to the vault, you’ll find an assortment of things like potions in scrolls. The most notable items you’ll find here are Sorrow and a Robe of Summer. Sorrow is a two-handed melee weapon that has Ensnaring Strike while the Robe of Summer is a piece of clothing that grants resistance to cold damage.
