Everything we know about Age of Empires 4 The Sultans Ascend

Players are most excited to hear about the two new civilisations, the first of which is the Byzantines. They deliver Roman aqueducts and introduce olive oil as a new resource. They can hire mercenaries from other civilizations and use Greek Fire in combat. Mangonel Emplacement is used in their defensive structures, which is great for defending against large groups of enemies. As for the economic bonus, you will get extra stone when you finish a construction.

The second new civilisation is the Japanese, known for their powerful units such as Samurai, Shinobi, Bannermen, and Onna-Musha. They have special buildings and upgrades for their town center, and in the Imperial Age, they can build unique castles with rocket emplacements. The Japanese also have an economic bonus: when gathering gold or stone, you will receive an additional 20% of the other resource.

Alongside these two civilisations are four variant civilisations that provide new ways to adapt existing ones. The Ayyubids focus more on camels in the Abbasid Dynasty, while Jeanne d'Arc joins the French as a powerful hero unit with unique abilities. The Holy Roman Empire becomes The Order of the Dragon, which has “gilded” units - impressive but pricey. Zhu Xi's Legacy changes China's Dynasty bonuses and landmarks to focus on long-term economic efficiency.

In The Sultans Ascend, you will get two new biomes, which are the Japanese spring biome of cherry blossoms and the African savanna with grassy plains. You’ll also find many new achievements and masteries while playing as the Byzantines and Japanese civilisations.

Finally, there is a new single-player campaign which follows the story of Muslim resistance leaders fighting against the Holy Templars, Hospitallers, Teutons, and the Mongols.
