VIDEO: Pac-Man visits real-world streets in trailer for new game

Ever since Pokemon Go briefly took over the world other mobile games have been trying to recapture the magic of AR and real-world gaming.

While not every one of these has been bad, none of them has managed to reach the dizzying heights of the Pocket Monsters.

Well, there's a new contender on the streets now, and it's playing a very different game indeed.

Let's introduce you to Pac-Man Geo.

Taking Pac-Man to the streets

In essence, Pac-Man Geo is just a game about walking, but that's a very good reason to go outside anyway, so that's no bad thing.

You effectively become Pac-Man, and while eating constantly as you walk might make you ill, it won't make Pac-Man ill, so don't worry about him.

As you can see, it looks a little less complicated than Pokemon Go, but it's a very different take on this style of game, and we're actually pretty excited about it.

A brand-new Pac-Man

As explained by Dennis Lee, the director of brand marketing at Bandai Namco "PAC-MAN GEO is breaking the traditional concept of the PAC-MAN maze and allows PAC-MAN to be played in real locations around the world for the first time ever in its 40 year history."

Pac-Man games have been a constant throughout gaming's history, and while they've not always managed to reach the same level of polish and success as the arcade version, the standouts in the series really are something special.

Whether or not this becomes something monumental or not is dependant on how many people play it, but as a core concept, it's definitely something that could pique our interest.
