Best Nintendo Switch games for lockdown: 7 titles that will get you through 2020


The end of the year is here and we're at the dawn of a new console generation.

We're not talking about the PS5 and the Xbox Series X here though, we want to talk about the last generation instead.

This is a great chance to catch up on some of the best PS4 and Xbox One games.

Of course, that also means it's a great chance to catch up on Nintendo Switch games too. So here's our list.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Nobody thought that this game would be any good, but it's actually one of the best strategy games available on the Switch by a fair margin. It might seem odd implementing XCOM-style mechanics into the cutesy world of Mario, but it works like a charm.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Smash Bros games have always been fairly ambitious, but stuffing every character in the series into one game is an almighty undertaking. It also happens to be the best the series has ever been, so you'll do well to get involved with this.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild has an open-world and design that might be the best of all time. It's simply beautiful, and it's filled to the brim with things to discover and weird hacks to make the most of. You should 100% spend your time getting lost in this one.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Doing digital chores isn't for everyone, but if 2020 has shown us anything, it's that Animal Crossing is an excellent game for when the world around you is chaotic. You even get to create your own perfect island in this one, so it's some lovely escapism.

Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart is one of those games that nearly everyone has played at some point, and Mario Kart 8 is the current pinnacle of the series. It's fun, it's easy to learn, and it's the kind of thing you can easily lose a weekend to.

Pikmin 3

Cute little critters running around and collecting things should be a nice happy game to sink into. Well, it's definitely a nice happy game, but it's also got this weird dark undertone to keep things interesting along the way. Pikmin 3 is finally out on Switch, and it's phenomenal.

Our last pick is one for your body, not just your mind. Ring Fit Adventure is a revolution in fitness gaming and it'll have you breaking a sweat, losing fat, and building muscle, all while you blitz your way through a turn-based RPG game.
