It’s been four years since Warner Bros revealed that they had begun work on a Nightwing movie. Needless to say, following WB's tumultuous falling-out with the SnyderVerse and a worldwide pandemic, progress hasn’t been smooth.
Ever since the movie’s announcement, Warner Bros has been silent on the project. The studio did attach The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay to the project, but no other information has been given.
The Nightwing movie isn't lost
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Chris McKay explained that the movie “is still a reality". While it appears that no progress has been made on the film since its reveal, the filmmaker is still interested in directing.
McKay explained that Warner Bros has been focused on other challenges, saying:
“I hope it’s still a reality. I hope that we still get to make that movie. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not lost yet. It is obviously something that… they’ve had other priorities; they’ve had other challenges. They’d had things that they needed to do, and I think that they found their way, with their recent successes, and the stuff that they are planning on doing now."
It'll be a “big, emotional movie"
In the interview, McKay teased that there is at least a finished script for Nightwing waiting for its turn. The filmmaker also explained that the version of the movie that's written isn't tied to the SnyderVerse at all. He revealed:
"Whether you call it ‘in an alternate universe’ or you pick in their multiverse universe which universe it’s part of, there are different ways into it. But Nightwing is a big, action-packed, emotional movie. It may not, budgetarily, be similar to what we do with The Tomorrow War. But from a scope and scale standpoint, as far as the kind of action and the kind of heart, that’s what Nightwing is going to be all about."
No release period has been given for the Nightwing movie.
