Having a main role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a huge commitment. The Infinity Saga saw the likes of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans tied to their role for a decade with very little time for anything else. With Evans departed from the MCU, Anthony Mackie has now picked up the shield. But how long will he last?
Anthony Mackie doesn't want to spend a decade as Captain America
In an interview with Variety, Anthony Mackie explained just how long he wants to stay as Captain America. The actor has already been in the MCU for over seven years as Sam Wilson. However, the actor's new role as Captain America is far more pivotal to the state of the cinematic universe.
Mackie previously joked that he'd happily continue playing the character into his sixties. Unfortunately for fans, that doesn't appear to be the case. The actor explained:
“I definitely don’t want to be a 55 year old Captain America, so I’ve got a solid six to eight [years] in me.”

It’s still a long time for Captain America
Anthony Mackie may only be Captain America until the MCU's next Infinity War style event. That's fine. Six to eight years is a lot of time for the actor to make a lasting impact as Cap and set up a successor, if needed. (On that note, the MCU is already introducing America Chavez in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. )
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently exploding with new characters and storylines at a rate we've never seen. Even without a Captain America, the MCU will still go strong far into the future. Also, Mackie's MCU departure is almost a decade away! That's a really long time.
