As leaks get more common for the film industry, Marvel has essentially become a gated community. It's common for main actors in MCU projects to know fairly little about a movie until weeks before filming. Despite this, movies such as Spiderman: No Way Home have still seen frequent alleged leaks.
In an interview with Collider, Spider-Man No Way Home actress Angourie Rice spoke out on Marvel's penchant for secrecy. The actress explained that working on MCU movies is like going up a secret theme park that no one can know about.
Angourie Rice says Marvel secrecy is like no other
In the interview, Rice explained that dealing with Marvel's large degree of secrecy is “tricky". However, Rice explained that she had some important people she can confide in about her projects.
"The way that like Marvel protects the story is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s so secret. Shooting Spider-Man was like getting to go to a really cool theme park, but you couldn’t tell anyone because it’s the world’s most secret theme park. That was tricky."
“The good thing about the second film was that I had my mother and my sister there with me, the whole time, so they were in on it and I could talk to them about anything because they were there."
With all that in mind, Rice exclaimed that she realises Marvel's secrecy is what fuels fan speculation. As Marvel continues to lock down their projects, fans are only getting more invested in unlocking their secrets.
"They are super secretive about everything. After being a part of it and seeing how people speculate from photos online and single lines in previous films, the fans of Marvel do some really great guesswork, for sure, so I understand."
Spider-Man No Way Home rumours turned out to be untrue
Some rumours surrounding the upcoming Spider-Man movie have turned out to be false. Until recently, it was believed that Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield would both be returning to the big screen. However, Garfield has since explained that he hasn't even been contacted about the movie.
On the other hand, Maguire has been completely silent on his involvement in the project. Unfortunately for Marvel, Doctor Octopus actor Alfred Molina has revealed that he is in the upcoming third movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will release on December 17th, 2021.
