Spider-Man will be “lent back” to Marvel for more MCU films, confirms Sony

Sony's involvement in Marvel's usage of Spider-Man has led to some terrifying moments for MCU fans. When the company attempted to take back control of the character, many were scared that the webhead would no longer be part of Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

However, after some corporate bartering, Marvel regained access to the webhead for Spider-Man: No Way Home. But what will happen after the release of Marvel's third Spidey film? Well, more Spidey films, of course!

Sony will let Marvel continue using Spider-Man

In an interview with ComicBook, Sony Pictures chair Tom Rothman confirmed that Marvel will continue using the character. Sony's decision to allow Marvel to use the beloved webhead in more movies comes after the use of MCU characters in No Way Home.

Rothman explains that the heavy use of Doctor Strange in No Way Home is part of the reason why Marvel will have more access to the wall-crawler. As Marvel has essentially lent Doctor Strange to Sony for No Way Home, Sony now owes them.

It's reciprocal. So we lend one, and they lend one, and that's how Benedict [Cumberbatch] is in this movie," Rothman told the outlet. "So we have one more 'lend back' that's committed.”

Rothman continued to explain that Marvel and Sony’s working relationship is concrete. With three movies under their belt, and more to come, the two companies are apparently looking to continue their working relationship.

Rothman said:

“The thing that I can say, and this actually the accurate scoop on this, which is that the two companies have a terrific working relationship. I think it's a mutual hope that that would continue. But there really isn't anything definitive at this moment, because the truth of the matter is, we gotta ride [No Way Home] and see what happens."

A new trilogy is on the way home

Rothman's comments come after Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal confirmed plans for a new movie trilogy for the webhead. While unconfirmed by Marvel and Rothman, Pascal remained sturdy that there will be a new trilogy with Tom Holland.

We don't know what will happen in the next trilogy. However, we do know that at least one movie in the trilogy will be a crossover with Venom. Additionally, there are plans for the next trilogy to take Spidey away from school and into adult life.

Whatever happens with the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hopefully it'll be satisfying for fans. If three more films are coming for the wall-crawler in the MCU, there will be an abundance of movies for fans to enjoy.
