Spider-Man: No Way Home's original villain was far less cool than the Sinister Six

It wasn’t that long ago that Sony was planning to rip Spider-Man away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the character's five-movie MCU career, Sony wanted the webhead back to continue building its own interconnected universe.

Obviously, Disney and Marvel Studios ended up getting more access to the webhead, hence the creation of the upcoming movie No Way Home. Additionally, Sony wants three more Spidey MCU films with Tom Holland. However, while everyone is excited about the Public Menace’s next movie, it was almost something completely different.

Kraven the Hunter was the title villain of Spider-Man: No Way Home

In an interview with Collider, Tom Holland explained that the Sinister Six wasn’t always planned for the new movie. After Sony planned to take Spidey back, director Jon Watts moved away from multiverse ideas, which would’ve created additional confusion with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Holland didn’t go into specifics about what the Kraven-focused film would’ve entailed. This is because the movie could end up “happening down the line”. Additionally, some of these plans could end up being used in a Kraven solo film. Essentially, that storyline will likely appear somewhere in the future.

"For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working out and all sorts of different stuff,” Holland said. “Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which actually was really cool. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening down the line, but it was fun."

Kraven will return

While Kraven may not appear in a mainline Spider-Man movie for quite some time, there are plans for the character. Just like Morbius and Venom, Sony is creating a solo movie for the character as part of their branch universe.

Additionally, the new movie will be a confusing project for MCU fans. This is because the title role of Kraven the Hunter will be played by an MCU actor. Instead of hiring a unique face, Sony has hired Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role of Kraven.

Of course, Taylor-Johnson played the role of Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, in Avengers: Age of Ultron. While the character has been dead for a while in the MCU, his face should still be recognizable. Especially if the actor ends up doing another bad interpretation of a slavic accent.

Taylor-Johnson isn't the only actor to play two roles in the interconnected universe. For example, Gemma Chan has played both Minn-Erva and Sersi. However, one of those roles involved heavy makeup. Will Kraven wear prosthetics?
