Obi-Wan Kenobi star reveals why Lucasfilm isn't showing anything yet

The Mandalorian kicked off Disney Plus’ Star Wars TV lineup with a bang prior to the release of Rise of Skywalker. Since then, Disney has released The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and The Book of Boba Fett. However, fans are still eagerly awaiting the most exciting entry in the Star Wars TV lineup: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Featuring the return of Ewan McGregor as the titular Obi-Wan, the upcoming show will show the character after the fall of the Republic. Announced back in 2019, the TV series has been in development for a good while, but when is it coming out?

When is Obi-Wan Kenobi coming out?

In an interview with Slashfilm, Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Rory Ross commented on the show’s lack of trailer. While many expected a trailer to be released in late 2021, Disney and Lucasfilm have shown nothing as of yet.

Ross explained that Lucasfilm is trying to make sure the show is as “polished as possible”. With previous Star Wars shows, such as The Mandalorian, production errors have made their way into final releases. For example, the infamous Jeans Guy was spotted in the background of The Mandalorian Season 2.

The actor explained:

"I think the big part of it is [Lucasfilm] is just trying to make sure that it's as polished as possible, so that when it comes out, it's not going to have that 'Game of Thrones' moment, where there's a coffee cup in the corner that they missed or something like that."

The special ingredient is love

In the interview, Ross explained that Lucasfilm is pouring a “lot of love” into the creation of Obi-Wan. Unlike The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett, the upcoming show is the triumphant return  of one of Star Wars’ greatest characters. As such, fans expect it to be handled with a great degree of care.

Ross told the outlet that fans are going to have a “really great time” with the upcoming show. The actor said:

“It's going to be awesome. It's going to be really, really cool. Having the connective tissue between the prequels and 'A New Hope,' and just understanding where Obi has been and what's happening, story-wise, I think fans are going to enjoy that. It’s  just going to hopefully blow people's minds and just really enjoy seeing what's been going on."

When is the Obi-Wan trailer coming out?

There's currently no date on when the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer will release. However, there are multiple opportunities for Lucasfilm to release the first look at the series. For example, with The Book of Boba Fett ending next week, a sneak peak at Obi-Wan could be hidden post-credits. On the other hand, that slot will most likely be given to The Mandalorian Season 3.

Instead, Lucasfilm and Disney will likely just release the trailer when they're ready. A teaser for the show is poised to break records no matter when it's released so there's no pressure on Disney to release anything.
