Obi-Wan Kenobi is why The Mandalorian Season 3 will release late

Waiting for a new season of your favourite TV show is hard. In the days of streaming services, content feels like it’s constantly being pushed onto your TV, making the wait even harder. In the case of The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi may be making fans wait even longer.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is limiting The Mandalorian

In a recent report by Collider, it was revealed that Disney's Obi-Wan Kenobi show is the reason fans have to wait so long for The Mandalorian Season 3. According to the report, both shows are filmed on Disney's L.A stages, fitted with their special VFX screens.

Of course, production on all TV and film was set back by the coronavirus pandemic. As such, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi took longer to start filming than expected. Even now, the Ewan McGregor led Star Wars show will be using the Mandalorian sets for quite a few months.

Thankfully, Disney's Marvel ventures don't appear to utilise the Hollywood sets as much as Star Wars. With this in mind, The Mandalorian Season 3 should start filming as soon as everything is ready. However, lack of set access isn't the only thing holding the show back.

Pedro Pascal is very busy

After The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984, Pedro Pascal quickly became a huge name. The actor is currently slated to begin filming HBO's upcoming The Last of Us series next month. Unlike The Mandalorian, Pascal has signed a First Position contract with HBO. This means The Last of Us must be treated as a priority.

Of course, it is possible to film most of The Mandalorian without Pascal. The character is mostly completely covered in his iconic Beskar armour. On the other hand, having someone other than Pascal in the suit would make the show lose some of the magic.

When will the show release?

The Mandalorian Season 3 isn't expected to start filming until the end of this year or early next year. Whatever the case, the show will release at the end of 2022 at the earliest. To keep fans excited for the third season, The Book of Boba Fett will serve as The Mandalorian Season 2.5 when it releases at the end of this year.
