Ewan McGregor wants Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 despite single season deal

Lucasfilm and Disney’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited run series is expected to be a farewell to the live-action version of the character. Bringing back prequel actor Ewan McGregor, the six-hour special is finally giving fans more of the sassy Jedi for the first time in almost two decades.

However, the series is expected to be a one-time thing. After the release of the show, McGregor may never play the character again… or will he?

Will there be an Obi-Wan Kenobi season two?

Creatives working on the still unreleased Star Wars show are adamant that Obi-Wan Kenobi is a single season show. Speaking to EW, director Deborah Chow explained that the series was always conceived as a story that’s bookended.

"It was definitely conceived as a limited series and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So that's the way we've always approached it," Chow told the outlet. "The approach has always been that it is one full story."

Writer Joby Harold echoed this response, claiming that the series is snugly fit between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

"Yeah, I don't know about it being a story beyond the story we're telling now," they said. "With these things, we always think of it as a complete story with the beginning and a middle and an end. That's the tradition of those great mythic Joseph Campbell stories that this was born from and that George [Lucas] built. And so we very much thought of it in that way, as its own story, its own narrative, its own journey for this character between Episode III and Episode IV."

However, there’s still hope that we’ll see more of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the future.

Ewan McGregor wants to do another season

Despite people behind the project claiming that Obi-Wan Kenobi is a done deal, actor Ewan McGregor is hoping for more. Perhaps with his love for Star Wars reinvigorated, the actor is hoping to do more in the future.

“It was made as a one-off limited series,” he started. “And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between III and IV and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan in A New Hope. And so, for sure, that's true."

However, the actor asked himself: “Would I like to make another one?" He answers: “Yeah, I would like to make another one."

But why would McGregor want to play the character again? Well, because it’s just so much fun! He explained:

“I had such a great time working with Deb, and the actors that we had in this were so great to work with, and the crew are just... I can't tell you. It was so wonderful to work on. I couldn't wait to get to work every day, and on a long shoot like this, that's something. Right to the end, I just loved the experience of it. [Additionally,] There's something very nice about doing work that you know people are going to see.”
