It's safe to say there's a lot of complexity when it comes to gaming monitors, and you could literally spend hours finding the perfect one to pair with your machine.

But for many, it's also a bit of minefield - so here's our quick-guide to understanding what you're getting, and if it's right for you.

Refresh Rate & Response Time

  • For gaming, go for a higher refresh rate and lower response times. This should translate into smoother gameplay!
  • Refresh rate is measured in Hz - we'd recommend 144hz for gaming.

Pixel Density

  • Higher pixel density equals more definition, but careful not to fall into the trap of thinking 'bigger is better'.
  • Check resolutions carefully when looking at larger screens, as they could give a less clear image than their smaller counterpart.
  • Full HD, 4K, even 5K are available.

Contrast

  • Generally speaking, a higher contrast monitor is best when it comes to graphics.

TN, IPS or VA
