Cyberpunk 2077 adds official modding tools - here's how to use them

Modifications are an integral part of the cyberpunk fantasy.

The idea of improving and tweaking things, whether on a laptop, PC, or your own body, is one that permeates through every version of cyberpunk.

Ultimately, it's a dystopian view of the world, but it's also one where people can be their truest selves thanks to mods.

Maybe that's why we finally have the official modding tools for Cyberpunk 2077 now.

CD Projekt Red has released official modding tools

That's right, CD Projekt Red has now added official modding support.

It's not like there haven't already been mods for the game, we know for a fact that we've written about a couple of them, but these tools will make things far easier for the budding game designers out there.

It also means we're far more likely to see high-speed fixes for any issues that pop-up as the modders out there come a little drunk with power.

If you're one of those people, then here's how you can get your hands on them.

How to use the modding tools

You'll need to head to the website and then download the ones that are there.

While these aren't as comprehensive as some other games, it's a start at least. The currently available tools are:

  • Metadata: Per game release, required by some of the tools
  • ArchiveDump: A utility for listing contents of game data archives
  • TweakDump: A utility for listing contents of game Tweak DB (game settings) binaries
  • TweakDB IDs: A list of IDs of Tweak DB entries. Generated using TweakDump and tweakdb.str metadata

Thes specifics of how to use each of these are a little beyond us to be honest, but there will be some good guides going up on YouTube in the coming days.
