Two men took it upon themselves to get jobs at Amazon just so they could get Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom earlier than everyone else. While it sounds like a two-man job, these were actually two different cases where youth and excitement got the best of these people.
According to Shūkan Bunshun (translated by Kotaku), an Amazon subcontractor calling themselves Mr. A had interactions with the two Zelda thieves. Both men admitted to getting these jobs for the sake of the new game, though they had different and amusing efforts.
Mr. A says the first culprit was a pretty open-and-shut case. A 21-year-old man stopped coming to work after copies of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came to the warehouse. When Mr. A called him, the mother’s suspect confirmed that he was playing the game. He confessed, paid for the game, and was fired.
Interestingly, the second culprit was much more malicious. Like the first one, he stopped showing up to Amazon after getting a copy of the Switch game. However, the 24-year-old didn’t just steal the game, as he also stole other Zelda merchandise and attempted to re-sell them. Like the first culprit, he was fired.
While we don’t approve of stealing in any way, a part of us can’t blame them for trying to play Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom early. Reviews have claimed that it’s one of the best Nintendo Switch exclusives out there, improving on the flaws Breath of the Wild had. This writer can attest to that, spending 60+ hours in the game and hoping to spend 60 more.
Despite the theft, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Tears of the Kingdom ended up being the best-selling game in the series. After all, hype for the game continues to be at an all-time high and we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up sweeping all those awards.
