Xiaomi has announced the Mi Mix Fold, the company's first foldable and the return of the Mi Mix sub-brand. Announced as part of the company's second reveal event this week, the folding device is a big step forward for the company.
However, for as awesome as Xiaomi's first foldable appears, many will be unable to take a crack at the upcoming device.
What is the Mi Mix Fold?
The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is a very traditional foldable. Eerily similar to a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, the next-gen folding phone is what we've come to expect from a device of that nature. However, it is a departure from the original Mi Mix designs which usually packed new mechanics into a standard glass sandwich.
The inner screen on the folding device is an 8.01" 4:3 OLED display with 2480x1860 resolution. Xiaomi's foldable reaches a peak brightness of 900 nits and has support for Dolby Vision HDR. Of course, there's also an outer screen that comes in at 6.52" with 90Hz refresh.
Inside the Mi Mix Fold you'll find a Snapdragon 888 with either 12GB RAM/256GB storage or 16GB/512GB. There's also a 5,024 mAh battery that uses the company's 67W fast-charging tech for a 37-minute full charge.
Mi Mix Camera
The Mi Mix Fold uses an innovative liquid lens camera that will allow for the device’s telephoto sensor to give a closer focus of 3cm. The liquid lens sensor also has 3x optical zoom and 30x hybrid zoom. Being a modern smartphone and all, the Fold also has two other cameras. They're a 108MP main sensor and 13 MP ultrawide.
In fact, outside of the liquid lens addition, the new Xiaomi device has a lot on common with the Xiaomi Mi 11 series. That flagship also features a 108MP main shooter; find out more in the article below.

Where can I buy the Mi Mix Fold?
The Mi Mix Fold will go on pre-sale in China today for a starting price of $1,521. The 16GB RAM version will cost almost $2000. Unfortunately, the device will only be sold in China. “The Mi MIX... is only going to be sold in China,” a Xiaomi representative told us.
There's no word on if the device could appear on the western market if there was sufficient demand, or if the device could appear as a Redmi product in the future. As for now, the device is China only.
