Xbox Series X boss "felt really good" after PS5 reveal

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 are both launching towards the end of this year, which means the console wars are back on!

It's been a relatively polite war thus far, but now it looks like Team Xbox is throwing a little bit of shade at Team PlayStation.

That's just what's happened here, with Phil Spencer talking about the PS5 reveal on IGN's Xbox Podcast, Unlocked.

Phil Spencer feels good after PS5 reveal

Spencer spent a full hour chatting with Ryan McCaffrey, the host of the show, and said a lot of interesting bits and bobs about the Xbox Series X.

Perhaps most interesting though, were his comments regarding the recent PS5 reveal, especially with how he "felt really good" about how the Xbox Series X compares with the PS5.

"I think Mark and the team did some really good work on the audio processing that they talked about, their SSD technology is impressive, we like that.

"We saw the work that they did. But we took a holistic view on our platform from CPU to GPU to RAM to throughput, velocity architecture, latency. It took us years to get to this point … so I definitely have respect for any platform team that's launching, because it takes a lot of work."

Is he throwing some shade?

This is what we could professionally refer to as the polite intro. He continued, though, and flexed a little in doing so.

"But I will say, when we finally saw the public disclosure, I felt even better about the choices that we made on our platform.

"And I kind of expected that I would. The hardware team that did Xbox One S and Xbox One X, I just have a lot of confidence in them. If I give them the time and the targets to go hit, I believe in their ability to create a great end-to-end program."

It's a refreshingly honest part of an interview in a world where we rarely get anything other than pure PR speak.

It's nice to see that Phil Spencer is proud of what his team is doing, even if it makes the wait for these new consoles feel even longer!
