Sony has consistently put out great consoles, apart from the PS3, which was kind of a mess. As a result of this, many people are wondering how long they'll keep doing this for.
Will there ever come a day where Sony decides to simply stop making PlayStation consoles, maybe retire somewhere nice and warm, have a nap?
Well, Sony is a company, and companies don't rest, even if the people inside of them do. That means they'll never stop, and we'll all keep buying consoles forever.

So, if you're here wondering if Sony will create a PlayStation 6 now they have released the PlayStation 5, we're here to help.
Will there be a PS6?
If you're wondering whether Sony will continue trying to make money by releasing new and improved versions of their consoles, then the answer is yes.
While the death of the console has been bandied around for a while now, it's never actually happened because consoles just keep getting more and more popular.
There may come a point that consoles become more like PCs, and they can be upgraded piece by piece, it's unlikely to happen any time soon, so the PS6 is pretty much a sure thing.

How long will the PS5 last?
Now the PS5 is finally here, let's have a think about when it will go away. Given that console generations seem to be getting longer, and that mid-generational versions of them are likely to become the norm, we'll likely be in the PS5 generation of consoles for around seven or eight years.
This could, of course, be longer or shorter, but just going based on the trends of the last twenty years or so, it's very probably to be around that long.
That being said, Masayasu Ito, Sony's Executive VP of hardware engineering, actually said that it'll probably be a six to seven-year generation, with a PS5 Pro coming around halfway through that.
