A big part of the RPG experience is leveling up your characters to power them up and gain access to new abilities. This applies to Larian’s Dungeons and Dragons game, so you may be wondering, what is the max level in Baldur’s Gate 3? Let’s find out to see how strong you can get before you proceed to the final moments of the campaign.
If you decide to go through the game with a group of friends in multiplayer mode, then you’ll only have to worry about leveling up your own character. On the other hand, playing with some NPC companions will give you an entire party to manage.
Now let’s see what is the max level in Baldur’s Gate 3 so we can start calculating how many experience points we need to grind out.
What is the max level in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The maximum level in Baldur’s Gate 3 is level 12. The developers had originally planned for the level cap to be 10 but ended up deciding to go with 12 as the maximum level to make room for some more high-level abilities.
You can gain experience points in Baldur’s Gate 3 from the typical RPG sources like completing quests, exploration, and of course, killing enemies. But given how long it takes to go through the game and that the cap is only 12, don’t expect to level up after every other quest you finish.
Larian Studios does not have any plans to raise the level cap for the foreseeable future. But we’ll make sure to update this guide in case they decide to change their minds.
Can you reach the max level while multiclassing?
No, you will not be able to reach level 12 if you choose to multiclass in Baldur’s Gate 3. This is arguably the biggest downside to multiclassing in the game since you’ll be missing out on some high-level abilities.
When playing through Baldur’s Gate 3, you will only ever get to raise a character’s level 11 times to reach level 12. While multiclassing, you will have to choose which of your classes to level up. This means your levels will be split between two classes, making it impossible to reach level 12 for that character.
If you ever change your mind about multiclassing at any point, you can respec a character by speaking to Withers in the Dank Crypt and paying him 100 gold pieces.
