Warner Bros. is delaying its supervillain game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League following a horde of negative backlash to its gameplay. The DC game publisher is seemingly taking the mass criticism to heart, potentially overhauling Rocksteady’s co-op game.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that developer Rocksteady is listening to the public criticism and have indefinitely delayed the game. At the time of writing, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have yet to confirm the delay but it looks like things aren’t looking good for the shooter.
While changes will be made to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players shouldn’t expect gameplay to be significantly different. Schreier himself states that the game will likely receive additional polish and not much else, which might disappoint those who wanted an overhaul.
The gameplay of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game isn’t bad per se, just bland and unoriginal. It looks like every other live-service shooter out there but with DC characters. Considering how most gamers are over the live-service shooter craze, it was a bad time to reveal an unoriginal title. While solid gameplay could save the game, it’s clear that this game is just following trends.
Not helping was how Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seemed to double down on everything bad about live-service games. Having a Battle Pass was bad enough but the game also requires constant internet access, even for those that want to play offline.
It also worth mentioning that Kill the Justice League is following two live-service superhero games that also failed to stay relevant. Marvel’s Avengers will be ending support soon and will be taken off stores in September, while Gotham Knights hasn’t made much noise.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was supposed to come out on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on May 26. If the delay is true, it looks like this game could end up coming out in 2024.
