Ubisoft hasn’t been the most popular gaming company in recent years. From overexposing franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six, to disgusting NFTs to serious sexual workplace allegations. It seems that petty Steam warnings are also on the list, getting mad at a fan who simply wanted Steam achievements for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

As many fans know, Ubisoft is bringing their games back to Steam, including more recent titles like Immortals: Fenyx Rising and Watch Dogs: Legion. However, judging by this post, it seems that moving over to the online space will come with some growing pains for the company.

Since the company insists on havings its own store for PC games, expect a slow trickle of titles and improvements when they come to Steam. However, some of Ubisoft’s titles are lacking basic features that even bottom-tier Steam games have.

On the PC gaming subreddit, a user posted about getting a warning for “spamming” when they complained about the Steam version of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla not having achievements. Naturally, the user was nervous about the warning, since they have plenty of games on Steam and they don’t want to be banned from the platform.

In a thread about possibly adding achievements to Valhalla, Ubisoft said that there were "no plans." This led to the user saying "Too bad because neither of these things would have been difficult to add. Hope they'll reconsider."

Not long after, the user was given a Community Warning and was told that his comment was considered "spam." Having multiple warnings like this can lead to account suspension, even deletion, which is a weirdly aggressive move from the company.

It seems that things have settled down since Ubisoft said that achievements for the game are now “under consideration.” However, the fact that they had to warn a fan for making a simple suggestion, making them an inch closer to losing their account, is still an extreme reaction.

This doesn’t exactly make Ubisoft look good, especially since it was a relatively harmless complaint about a steam port for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. As the user suggested, their comment could have simply been deleted and a warning really wasn’t needed. Goes to show just how petty and mean Ubisoft is.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Steam. If you want achievements for the game, it might be best to stick with the console versions.
