Total War: Pharaoh is making major changes, as the game’s paid DLC plans have been scrapped, with developer Creative Assembly removing all the expensive “Deluxe” editions. It’s not just DLC either, as the game’s base price has also dropped, as Creative Assembly tries to give fans a fairer experience.

During a lengthy blog post, Creative Assembly apologized to their fans for how the past few months have been, acknowledging that changes needed to be made. Fans of the Total War series have been critical of Pharao, calling it the series low point, which is why Creative Assembly is making sweeping changes.

Creative Assembly will be making all paid DLC for Total War: Pharaoh free from this point on, with next year’s DLC now being a free update. In addition to this, Creative Assembly has also refunded fans who bought the DLC or various Deluxe editions, ensuring that everyone has the same experience.

“We don’t think it’s fair that our fans, who put their trust in us on PHARAOH, should in any way feel disadvantaged for buying the game at the previous price,” stated the blog post. “We’ve also removed the higher priced editions of the game, the Deluxe Edition, and Dynasty Edition. There’s now only one edition of the game available for purchase.”

Various companies have removed microtransactions before, this might be the first time we’ve seen developers refund fans for paid DLC they purchased in advance. You don’t see companies do this a lot, so Creative Assembly should be praised for going all the way when it comes to giving Total War: Pharaoh fans a fairer experience.

Pharaoh didn’t come out to great reviews at launch, to the point that fans were looking for a Total War alternative not too long ago. Creative Assembly’s efforts to make things right with fans should be commended and the response should be interesting, to say the least.
