If you are trying to use Topaz AI then you may have encountered the Topaz AI VRAM error, a knotty little problem that makes it difficult or impossible to run any models.
Luckily for you, there are a few potential fixes that you can try, in order to overcome this issue and start utilising the suite of Topaz Labs software. In this guide, we'll run you through what those options are, so you can hopefully get things back up and running.
Below, you'll find all the information you need about Topaz AI VRAM error and how to fix it.
How To Fix The Topaz AI VRAM Error
There are a few different solutions which users have reported as working for them such as installing Studio Driver. At the time of writing, there isn't a definitive answer that is guaranteed to fix this issue every single time. So work through the fixes we've outlined, until you find one that - hopefully - does the trick
Install Studio Driver instead of Game Ready Driver on Nvidia
For users with an Nvidia graphics card, you may be able to fix this issue by making sure that you install Studio Driver (SD) instead of Game Ready Driver (GRD).
Studio Drivers are more appropriate for content creators, and prioritize stability for tasks such as video editing, animation, graphic design, and photography. GRD are more suited to gamers who want support for the latest games, including day of launch updates, patches and DLC.
Disable GPU Scheduling
Some users have reported that turning off GPU scheduling makes this issue disappear. To try this:
Go to Settings > System > Graphics > Default graphics settings.
In theory, GPU Scheduling means that the GPU's scheduling processor and VRAM do the same work, reducing the workload on the processor. In turn, this helps to improve PC performance by reducing latency.
That's the theory, anyway. But if you are encountering this VRAM error, then it's worth disabling this feature to see if it makes a difference.
Update your Graphics Drivers
Perhaps fairly obviously, make sure you are running the most up-to-date version of your drivers. This is especially true if you've recently updated your Topaz Labs software, as this might cause a compatibility issue if you are running obsolete drivers.
On the flip side, if you've recently updated your drivers and have started to experience the VRAM error, try rolling back your drivers to a previous version, to see if that's the cause of the issue.
Update your Topaz Labs Software
As with your GPU drivers, it's worth making sure you are running the latest Topaz Labs software available. So if there are any updates pending, download and install them when you can.
Try Switching between GPU and CPU
We've seen this work before with a different issue, but it's worth trying here just in case your GPU is struggling because it doesn't meet the system requirements for the software you are trying to run.
Simply click the Processor menu in Topaz Photo AI and try the CPU option. If this works, then it strongly points to your GPU being the issue.
Reinstall
Last, but by no means least, you can try the nuclear option, of uninstalling, and then reinstalling the software. If you've tried everything else but to no avail, then there's little harm in doing this.
Contact Customer Support
