If you're a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan, you have plenty of reasons to be excited, especially with the reveal that a TMNT: The Last Ronin game is now in development by publisher THQ Nordic during their most recent showcase.

On top of a bizarre Street Fighter 6 x TMNT collaboration and the release of their latest film, Mutant Mayhem, fans of the franchise were shocked to hear that the acclaimed The Last Ronin comic book story was being adapted into a videogame, set to be published by THQ Nordic and developed by Black Forest.

As mentioned, the announcement came during the 11 August THQ Nordic showcase, serving as the grand finale. You can check out the reveal teaser below.

Now, there's very little we do know about the game adaptation of TMNT: The Last Ronin; however, the announcement video confirmed the title is targetting only current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC) and by the looks of it, with the teaser ending with an "In Development" warning, we might have to wait a few years for its release.

If you're unfamiliar with the story of TMNT: The Last Ronin, it's set in a post-apocalyptic, decimated New York City, and three out of the four titular turtles have been killed. The last remaining turtle seeks revenge against the Foot Clan or will die trying.

As you might infer by the small synopsis, this isn't your typical light-hearted TMNT story, and according to insiders, the developers at Black Forest will heavily lean on the darker aspects of The Last Ronin to bring the story to life.

Getting inspiration from recent action RPGs like God of War sounds like a fantastic take for The Last Ronin, as the story could play out beautifully with the last remaining turtle adapting the style of his deceased brothers as you progress through the game.

We'll have more information on TMNT: The Last Ronin as soon as it's released. In the meantime, why not check out more gaming news, including the PS5 Slim leaks, and Overwatch 2's Steam launch marred by review-bombing?
