Dwarves exploring the Kingdom of Moria.

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria features an interesting premise centring around the occasionally overlooked dwarven race. After the Hobbit trilogy, the dwarves seemingly got side-lined in favor of the other races, such as hobbits, humans, and elves.

Well, no more! Return to Moria puts dwarves back in the spotlight, even bringing back some of our favourite dwarves from across the Lord of the Rings story. But does the game bring one of the story's most important dwarves, the exiled Dwarf King Thorin Oakenshield, back into the fold? Is Thorin in Return to Moria?

Is Thorin in Lord of the Rings Return to Moria?

Thorin is an integral part of The Hobbit trilogy, being one of the central characters driving the plot in his quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. Unfortunately, it was in this very film trilogy that he died during the Battle of the Five Armies.

This makes it so that Thorin was deceased even well before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and thus will not be appearing in Lord of the Rings Return to Moria. Regrettable as this is, it keeps fully in line with the continuity of the LotR story, which is commendable on the part of the developers. Breaking the story for the sake of quick cameos would leave a bad taste in any fan's mouth.

Of course, it's very possible, if not probable, that Thorin will be referenced or mentioned in the game at some point. After all, he was a Dwarf King and had ties to the Kingdom of Moria.
