Gaming on a laptop can be an expensive endeavour or a disappointing one.
You can find a middle ground, but it often becomes far simpler to just get a PC instead.
Well, what if you could upgrade your laptop with external hardware?
That's exactly what Gigabyte is aiming to do with their new external graphics cards.
Meet the AORUS RTX 3090/3080 Gaming Box
As announced in the press release the "AORUS RTX 3090/3080 GAMING BOX is equipped with the most powerful NVIDIA Ampere™ architecture GeForce RTX™ 3090/3080 graphics card and the latest Thunderbolt™ 3 high-speed transmission interface and this combination not only brings powerful 3D gaming performance to the Thunderbolt™3-enabled Ultrabook laptop but also upgrades the Ultrabook for real-time ray tracing game, 3D animation and deep learning."
Not only that, but the company promises that the box takes "care of not only the GPU but also the VRAM and MOSFET to ensure a stable operation and longer life. AORUS WATERFORCE all-in-one cooling system integrates a large copper plate, a 240mm aluminium radiator and two 120mm fans. With an optimized pump and water block, it provides the most efficient water flow and cooling performance at a lower noise level."
That's all very impressive, and while you'll need an ultrabook with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, it's probably worth it for this kind of an upgrade.

When can you get your hands on the AORUS RTX 3090/3080 Gaming Box?
If that all sounds great to you, then you'll no doubt be wanting to know when you can get one of these boxes and hook it up to your laptop.
Well, there's no sight of a release date or a price as of yet.
We'd expect it to be early next year at some point, and probably over £1,000 too. It'll largely depend on how available the GPUs are in the first place though.
