I've wanted a foldable smartphone for years, ever since the technology entered the mainstream. The original Galaxy Fold debuted in 2019, and while there were rightful concerns about the durability and longevity of such a device, it was a great proof of concept that has since been expanded upon.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 have disappointed some existing foldable phone users, the latest Fold model is now my main smartphone. Despite some minor issues that I hope will be addressed in future Galaxy Fold models, I believe this is an excellent foldable smartphone for those who have yet to explore this unique segment of a (mostly) boring mobile market.

I've been waiting for a while to get a foldable iPhone, one that reportedly has a superhero screen that heals itself, but it seems we're a long way from that. My iPhone 15 Pro Max has served me well for the better part of a year, but the large screen and simplicity of iOS left me bored after a while. I've been switching between Samsung and Apple smartphones for years, and the Fold was very appealing to me.

I prefer devices with a larger screen, mainly for a better experience playing games and more real estate for typing. However, stretching my thumb across the device with just one hand caused pain over time. Enter the Fold 6, which offers a unique solution to my first-world problem.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 6's cover screen is perfect for one-hand use, making it easier to quickly type out messages or play fast matches of Marvel Snap compared to the 15 Pro Max. Unfolding the latest Galaxy flagship reveals a 7.6" screen that works extremely well with plenty of apps and games, while also allowing multitasking and typing on a larger device.

Before purchasing the Fold 6, I was indifferent to multitasking on a foldable smartphone. But it's ridiculously useful. Having a music streaming app on one side of the screen while texting my family on the other side is a simple feature that enhances your smartphone experience. While it's not essential, it's something I really like.

The actual design of the Fold 6 is really nice too and feels as premium as the Galaxy S lineup we've all gotten used to. I wish the cameras had a spec bump from the previous generation, but they're still impressive enough for anyone who isn't a professional photographer. And while the Galaxy AI features still feel like a marketing gimmick, Sketch to Image adding little hearts on my children or creating UFOs above city landscapes is, admittedly, quite fun.

My only major issue with the Fold 6 is the battery capacity. The 4,400 mAh battery is lower than other foldable phones on the market, with the Magic V2 offering a massive 5,000 mAh capacity, for example. However, minor hardware features like these may deter tech nerds like myself from jumping to the Fold 6. But I assure you, it's worth the leap if you're interested.

Of course, durability concerns remain. The Fold 6 has more moving parts than the less-expensive Galaxy S24 Ultra, making the flagship S24 a better option for many Android users. However, the Fold 6 feels great to use, and I struggle to see how I can go back to standard smartphones after my brief testing with it.
