The Strong Museum has announced the gaming nominees it thinks are worthy of entering its 'World Video Game Hall of Fame' in 2023, and The Last of Us has made the cut.

Naughty Dog's sensational hit The Last of Us was first released as a late-generation PS3 title in 2013, receiving critical praise. It's since been remastered, remade as Part 1 on PS5, and even spawned the lauded HBO TV series. It's no wonder, then, that The Strong Museum sees the game as culturally important enough to include on the list.

Even though it's a strong candidate, it faces stiff competition from 11 other games that have been nominated for induction into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Among these are heavy hitters like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, GoldenEye, and... Wii Sports.

No, that's not a joke either. How much of a videogame Wii Sports is might be debated among the most hardcore of gamers, but in the time between 2006-2008, living rooms around the world were dominated by family members young and old bowling together - and let's be honest, it's the only place you can legally punch out your grandma with no legal repercussions.

The good news is that this vote is all about the players, so you can head over to the Strong Museum website to cast your vote for the game you think should be inducted as one of the best games of all time. You can vote once per day and the top three games will then move on to the next stage of the process.

The final choices will be revealed on May 4, so make sure you get your votes in before then if you're particularly passionate about any of the games on the list.
