DC released the physical editions of its limited-run The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries yesterday in stores across the world.
The limited run follows Batman and the Scooby gang in a story written by Ivan Cohen and Sholly Fisch. Illustrations for the series are provided by Dario Brizuela and Randy Elliot.
Contributors will take it in turns on a biweekly schedule, trading off stories and art two chapters at a time.
This isn’t the first time the gang has teamed up with Batman, as there is a history between the two brands that goes as far back as the 70s.
The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries
The story begins when Batman requests the help of Mystery Inc. after the purple gloves on the original Batsuit were swapped for fakes.
Working together, Batman and Mystery Inc. will time travel in order to solve the mystery of the vanishing purple gloves. It all sounds silly in the kind of way a cross-over of this nature should.
Chapters started releasing digitally last month, but yesterday marked the first release of the comics hitting stores. All together there are 24 digital chapters, split across 12 physical comic releases.
Hollywood Report Interview
The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries’ writers spoke with Hollywood Reporter back in January to promote the release of the comic books.
Both writers commented on what made the pairing so successful, with Cohen pointing towards how much both worlds have in common: “They have a lot in common. Colorful outfits, weird bad guys, and super-smart detectives - just to be clear, I'm talking about Batman and Velma.”
Cohen also recalled a moment the two writers shared shortly after confirming the project: “In our first conversation after we got this gig, Sholly and I bonded over shared memories of a collection called Batman From the '30s to the '70s.”
The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries is available in store now.
