Tesla Steam Integration is coming to play any game on your electric car

Steam is currently the most popular form of PC gaming right now, but it seems that Valve’s gift to PC gamers is going mobile… But not on phones. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that Tesla is working to make Steam playable on the company’s electric cars, making the service as mobile as possible.

Who needs a Steam Deck?

On Twitter, Elon Musk tweeted out that Tesla is making progress with Steam integration into their electronic cars. While Musk doesn’t give a release date for this feature, he claims that a demo for this feature might be released this month. Take that with a grain of salt until an official press release is made but this is an intriguing feature.

Currently, Tesla owners can use the Tesla Arcade feature, which does allow users to play games like Cuphead and Sonic the Hedgehog. However, as The Verge points out, it would be a massive challenge to bring Steam’s entire library to electronic cars. Some games on Steam need certain settings to be changed on PC, so managing that on a car could be a challenge.

Tesla gaming promises and controversies

Another reason fans should take Musk’s words with a grain of salt is that he previously said that games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 would be playable on Tesla cars. Maybe the company is waiting for the Steam integration to make it work but the fact that it’s taken this long means fans shouldn’t keep their hopes up.

Speaking of the Tesla Arcade, there was some controversy where the company originally let the feature be available while drivers are driving. That quickly became a point of contention, so it wasn’t shocking to see Tesla walk back this policy and only make the feature playable while the car is parked.

Overall, gaming on the go should be left to handhelds like the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. Gaming on a car doesn’t exactly scream “relaxing and comfortable experience.”
