Finnish brand Suunto has been making a name for itself with its smartwatches, and excitement is building over the potential release of a new Suunto 9 Peak Pro.
Having released the original Suunto 9 Peak watch in 2021, fans of the company are eager to know whether or not a Pro version is on its way.
We've looked previously at devices such as the Fitbit Versa 4 and Fitbit Sense 2. So if you are wondering whether to take the plunge now, or to hold off a bit longer in case a new, even better watch is released, here's some information to help you make your decision.
Suunto 9 Peak Pro Release Date Speculation
It's important to note that Suunto has yet to confirm anything official. But there are a few leaks that strongly suggest that a Suunto 9 Peak Pro is in the works, and importantly, may not be far away from a release date.
An eagle-eyed Redditor who goes by the moniker of Accomplished_Sir_519 spotted a potential website listing for the new watch, although this has subsequently been taken down. But a website listing usually indicates that a release date isn't too far away.
So while that listing may have been taken down, further evidence to suggest that the watch is on its way comes courtesy of @_snoopytech_ on Twitter. And while the details they have leaked don't give us a release date, the rendered images certainly suggest a product that is close to being ready for launch.
Looking back doesn't give us a huge amount of information. The Suunto 9 launched in June 2021, with a Titanium version following in April 2022. There isn't much of a pattern visible.
This means that we can't really offer much by way of a definitive release date. But, if the leaks we've already mentioned are accurate, then it may be coming soon.
Suunto 9 Peak Pro Price Prediction
While the information on a possible release date is limited, the rumours around a potential price are far more concrete.
The suggestion from snoopyTech is that the Suunto 9 Peak Pro will launch for €499. This would currently convert to around $500.
The original Suunto 9 Peak currently has a list price of €469, so €499 would represent a small premium over the original watch. the question of how accurate this is remains to be answered. A lot will depend on what new specs the Peak Pro has to offer.
Suunto 9 Peak Pro Specs
Based on the leak we've mentioned above, the following features are believed to be coming to the Suunto 9 Peak Pro:
- Battery life, often the Achilles heel of smartwatches, has been extended. The original watch offered 14 days of battery life, or 25 hours with GPS turned on. The Pro version is rumoured to offer 21 days of 40 hours, respectively.
- The Pro watch also offers more than 80 sports modes, including a ghost racer to keep you on track.
- The Suunto 9 Peak Pro is apparently going to be water-resistant to 100m.
- It will also offer automatic backlighting and wireless updating.
There isn't a huge amount more in terms of new sensors or health and fitness tracking. It also seems unlikely that it will use WearOS, and will instead stick with Suunto's own OS. It remains to be seen just how significant an upgrade this will be.
As always, we'll keep you posted as we learn more.
