Steelseries is no stranger when it comes to producing high-quality wireless headsets.
The Arctis 7 is still regarded as one of the best headsets of all time, and it has been quite some time since it released.
Now, there is a new kid on the back; and the Arctis 9 has been turning a lot of heads since it has released.
So, does it live up to the hype? Let's find out...
Setup and Build Quality - Score 90
If you have used any Steelseries headset in the past then it will be a breeze setting up the Arctis 9.
All the setup involves is taking the headset and connector our of the box, plugging in the receiver via USB, and pressing the connect button.
Turning on the headset via the side button is all you have to do and there you go. You have the option of setting it up via the Steelseries desktop app; we recommend you do this but it is not a necessity.
Moving on to the build quality of the Arctis 9, the headset frame itself is constructed of a solid material. Having used the Arctis 7 Wireless for over two years, it has seen its fair share of falls and drops. If the Arctis 9 is anything like the latter iteration, you should not worry about these breaking anytime soon!
Comfort - Score 90
Steelseries has stuck to the same design and material when it comes to ear cushions and head support.
These offer some of the best comforts I have used when it comes to headsets, and the top band can be adjusted to fit your head!
Over the last couple of days using the headset, I have never felt any form of discomfort and with it being extremely humid as of late; the ear cushions did not overheat and still remained cool!
Sound Quality - Score 94
Perhaps the most important aspect of the headset is the sound quality you will be getting for the price you pay.
These offer 'Lossless 2.4 GHz wireless for lag-free high fidelity gaming audio', along with the signature Steelseries audio quality we have experienced over the last few years.
The in-game sound is among some of the best I have experienced in recent times, footsteps are crystal clear and there the bass levels are at a perfect level for most titles.
When it comes to music, it could be better. Although it is the best, there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to certain aspects of music listening!
Overall, the Arctis 9 is nearing the top when it comes to sound quality for Steelseries headsets. It is hard to find a better mix of high-quality audio with precise details when it matters most. Combined with the onboard mixer, which can be used to level out chat and game volume; it offers a great mix of both!
Wireless - Score 93
Wireless headsets have been my preferred choice over the last few years.
Losing the extra wire across your body is one of the best feelings in the world, and it is hard to go back to a wired headset.
The Arctis 9 will stay connected on a full charge for up to 20 hours, which is amazing compared to other headsets.
As well, the receiver has a phenomenal range and the headset will never be to far away unless you are extremely far away!
Our Score
Pros
- Comfort and Build Quality are among the best in the industry
- Battery Life - You will rarely have to charge these!
- The on board mixer to level out chat and game volume works like a charm
Cons
- Price - The headset is rather expensive for little upgrades compared to the Arctis 7
- The indicator for when the mic is muted can be spotty at times
Steelseries has produced yet another exceptional product that will be around for years to come.
Although the price tag may be controversial for the upgrades you are getting over the Arctis 7, it is still well worth the price.
A quality headset that will last you for years; all while being wireless is worth any price in my eyes!
