Star Wars Jedi: Survivor might have a physical release but those discs are essentially useless. Despite coming on physical media, the upcoming Star Wars game will demand an online download before you can play.

The new Jedi game will take up when it comes out and buying the disc won’t be much help. With an install size of over 150GB, the game’s physical copies don’t include everything needed to play the new adventure.

A post on the game’s subreddit revealed that the physical versions have the dreaded “download required” printed on the box art.

It seems EA was aware of the controversy this would cause as they made the warning as small as possible, though fans simply need to look at the rating to spot it.

Fans were hoping that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would be able to load all 155 GB of the game so they could play right away. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, as PS5 Blu-Ray discs can only carry up to 100 GB while Xbox Series discs carry a bit less than that.

Expect to download an additional 50 GB or more after the discs fully load the needed storage.

Due to all the space needed to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it seems that fans are better off getting the digital version and then pre-loading the game before release.

Granted, you don’t get the satisfaction of opening up the case and smelling the packaging but that’s a small price to pay, honestly.

To be fair, it does seem like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor might be worth all that space it's taking. Areas are bigger, combat looks more challenging, and the game’s graphics are gorgeous. We also dig being able to customize Cal Kestis to our liking and starting out with all of our Fallen Order upgrades is cool.

Sadly, triple-A games taking up so much space is becoming less surprising and that’s pretty disappointing. We suppose that’s the price to pay for gorgeous visuals and we’re sure Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will take up a similar amount of space.

Fans will be able to purchase Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on April 28 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.

Personally, we think fans who are set on buying it should pre-order it digitally and start pre-loading it on April 25 or April 26.
