Paramount’s Star Trek: Picard is far from the best show in the long-running franchise, but it did drum up a lot of hype. With that series almost over, it looks like a new spinoff is in the works — Star Trek: Janeway.
Is Star Trek: Janeway happening?
In a recent panel uploaded on TikTok, via BC, Janeway actor Kate Mulgrew discussed the idea of a spinoff. With the success of Picard, despite its critical blunder, there does seem to be room for more Janeway in the future.
Mulgrew confirmed that there are talks for Janeway‘s live-action return. However, it’s a job for fans to make Star Trek: Janeway a reality. Do you want to see another spinoff?
“There are talks. You know? There are conversations,” Mulgrew said. “Have I been offered anything directly? No. I think they're looking at 'Picard.' They're looking at the value of 'Picard.' They're looking at the reaction to 'Picard.' I'm sure all of you loved it, didn't you? I don't know what they're thinking, but I think that Janeway was one of a kind. Right? I don't know, but I do think it is up to you as much as it is up to me."
The return of Janeway isn’t out of the realm of possibility. After all, Voyager co-star Terri Ryan (Seven of Nine) is already a Picard regular. Furthermore, series is already bringing back Tasha Yar, a dead character, and potentially Quark.

Kate Mulgrew‘s dedication to Star Trek
Out of every Star Trek actor still alive today, Kate Mulgrew is absolutely the most dedicated. Despite not being in live-action Trek media for two decades, the actress has stayed close to the franchise.
For example, Mulgrew has a heavy presence in the MMO Star Trek Online. The actress is part of several major expansions with more voice lines than any other captain. Mulgrew even reprised her role for this year’s expansion.
Furthermore, the actress recently returned as Janeway for the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. It’s obvious that she is very committed to the sci-fi franchise.
Should a Star Trek: Janeway happen? Sure, why not? As long as it’s well written and Janeway acts like Janeway then it’ll at least be better than the shockingly bad Picard!
