One day, you just log on to your favourite social media app to enjoy a little time off, you tap on the games tab and... nothing. What happened? Are the Snapchat Games gone? Let's take a look to understand what is going on.
Snapchat is a social media app that is popular especially with younger people, with it you can share stories, save messages, ask questions and interact with your friends. Games were never a big thing on the app, but it was a feature that many liked to play around with.
Now, though, it doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Are the Snapchat games gone? Let's delve deeper into it and see.
Did Snapchat remove games?
Unfortunately, yes. The company confirmed on February 7 that it removed the Snapchat Games and Minis to bring more focus on other features more important for creators and users using the app.
Up until the beginning of February, it was possible to access a series of minigames from the app, also allowing you to compete with your friends to see who could achieve the highest scores.
Minis were also used for other purposes such as to see birthdays on Snapchat, which was super useful. While the Games and Minis will be missed, Snapchat My AI can probably fill the shoes.
Will Snapchat bring back games?
At the moment, the company doesn't seem to be particularly focused on the gaming aspect of the social media platform. Now, it doesn't seem like the company wants to bring back that aspect.
Perhaps this is not entirely a surprise. Last year, in 2022, Snapchat reported financial losses and difficulties which led to the decision to suspend Snap Games, which was the company's gaming business. Perhaps, in the future, we will see the company bring it back, but for now, that is not happening.
